About the FDNY:
As first responders to fires, public safety and medical emergencies, disasters and terrorist acts, FDNY protects the lives and property of New York City residents and visitors. The Department advances public safety through its fire prevention, investigation and education programs. The timely delivery of these services enables the FDNY to make significant contributions to the safety of New York City and homeland security efforts. Part of such efforts to maintain safety is to inspect local business.
A Notice of Violation is a form issued at the end of a fire inspection to notify the respondent if one or more of the city’s administrative codes or Fire Department rules have been found to be in violation. FDNY inspections are usually scheduled annually, but an inspection may be performed at any time if the Fire Department has a reason to believe that a location is in violation.
